i-Path offer a range of support infrastructures for the use of virtual microscopy for remote consultation, consultation networks, multidisciplinary meetings and boards.
Example of PathXL in Clinical forums: Belfast based 'Red Star', is an hour-long case-based educational session for trainee and consultant pathology staff which occurs on a weekly basis during the academic year, which allows thorough discussion of differential diagnosis, final diagnosis and clinical settings. Participants represent all hospitals within Northern Ireland. i-Path have modernised the format of these sessions, using PathXL™’s digital slide viewer. Resulting benefits include: - Reduced time required to prepare slides and associated clinical histories, as they are scanned and can therefore be accessed by all session participants in advance of the session
- Provides additional resource for case review, both pre and post session
- Provides a permanent archive of cases, which will provide MRCPath and FCRPath examination preparation resource for trainees
- PathXL™’s features such as digital projection of slides and ancillary material, use of annotation and a videoconferencing facility render the sessions user-friendly for all participants and accessible throughout the region
